Q1/ I would choose option 1 because Sarah is obviously anxious about not being with her baby. She needs reassurance he is doing well and is receiving the best possible care. Arranging a video call so she can see Theo would be beneficial for her as she is also recovering from surgery.

Q2/ I would choose option 2 because Sarah may feel alone and need to speak to someone. She is concerned about her son and supporting her through this situation and coming up with a action plan together will make her feel more involved in his care.
If she requests to be on her, then I would respect her wishes and keep checking on her throughout the shift.

Q3/ I would choose option 2 because the hospital can’t refuse her discharge if she wants to leave but she really needs to be well herself to look after her baby. Explain to Sarah that she still requires medication and nursing care and speak to my manager about a possible discharge date so Sarah has an idea when she will be able to be reunited with her baby.
