I will get in contact with the neonatal unit ,try and find out why nobody has responded to the video call request I arranged an hour ago. find out if the baby is doing okay so you can pass the information to the mother of the child. I want to appear very transparent and honest.

I won’t just walk in, but rather ask for consent outside the curtains, ask if it’s okay for me to come in because she might need some time for herself and by doing so, I might be invading her privacy. if she invites me in it is my job to find out what is going on by showing empathy, and find out what her concern is and how best I can help her.

A soft approach must be used in this scenario, I will kindly explain to the patient what her options are, explain to her it is not safe to discharge herself with such mental stress and her current condition. Secondly kindly explain it would rather do more harm than good. Lastly, inform the ward manager what the patient’s intentions are, perhaps she can arrange an alternative solution to solve the problem.
