Q1 I would choose option 1 because the grief of the mother that has just had a baby but is separated from him, with all the implications that has (not only behavioural but also biological and chemical) is more important than the other 2 points, which are also valid. At least I would try to get her through and I would do that as many times as it would be possible for me. Mothers usually have their babies with them and Sarah can’t, so if watching him through an ipad helps her and also allows the newborn to hear her voice, I think I would try to help achieve that as much as possible.
Q2 Option 2 because I need to make sure she’s ok and if she’s got company. I wouldn’t enter the space enclosed by the curtains, I would say who I am from the outside if I can come in or if she is ok and if she needs help and what kind. Option 1 is based on an assumption, I rather make sure she says she needs time alone. And the 3rd, the curtain was surely drawn for a reason, maybe she is with another nurse or doctor and they are checking something and she’s uncovered. Again, I cannot make an assumption and open the curtain.
Q3 Option 2, I can only pass on factual information but the decision is hers, I am no one to tell a person where they should be or to call security on them if they haven’t posed a danger to me, others or themselves.
