Q1 – I would chose option 1, due to the fact she has just gone through a traumatic experience being away from her baby may trigger a psychological episode and as a new parent all you want to do is see your newborn in this stressful situation , however as nurse we have a duty of care towards the patient health and wellbeing and to have a person-centred care approach so that patients can recover well and receive the best possible treatment.
Q2- I would choose option 2. ‘You must ensure you gain consent before you begin any treatment or care (NMC, 2018)’. It is very important to respect Sara privacy and space. With Sara consent to enter her bedside, as a nurse we should be compassionate towards Sara who is in a difficult situation. We want to be able to build a relationship with Sara with professional boundaries as she is vulnerable, allow her to speak and voice her concerns so we can give her the appropriate support needed.
Q3- I would cho0se option 2. According to NHS UK Patients are in their own right to discharge themselves at any time during their stay in hospital, however in Sara condition I will strongly advise Sara to remain in hospital and the the risk she will putting her health and wellbeing in. As a nurse we need to look after Sara health and wellbeing. I will seek senior help such as a ward manager speak to Sara to advise her to remain in hospital for her recovery to be strong and well enough to look after Theo.
