1. focus on assessing the patient first – ensure his condition does not escalate
2. check the catheter and make sure it is draining well – keep an eye on his blood pressure and other vitals
3. give him information about what will happen in his 24 hour stay in hospital
4. with his consent call his wife to inform her of his admission, current condition, and what will happen in his hospital
