I agree with Sarah, Response 2 allows Tom’s daughter to be informed and provide emotional support at potentially a better level than a stranger to him could. I would perhaps adjust the response though to include whether Tom wanted one of the medical staff to call his daughter to come to the hospital. Response 1 whilst kind, seems a little self-centered, Response 3 is necessary at some point but not straight away, and Response 4 is unsympathetic and rude.
