1. Pro’s- Gives Chris reassurance that the treatment provided will help him.
Cons- A positive outcome is not always guaranteed. Also, it is not a compassionate way to comfort Chris when he is already feeling distressed. That response could come across abrupt especially when in a distressed state.
2- Pro’s- Chris will feel empowered by this and that his concerns are being heard and addressed. He will feel very involved in his current situation
Cons- Encouraging an answer from Chris who is already struggling to breath is problematic and could worsen his symptoms.
3- Pro’s- Receiving medical advice could make Chris feel as ease and make him feel he is in safe hands. If he follows the nurse’s advice he may feel as though he will recover which may help him to relax.
Cons- This is not guaranteed. Chris could slow his breathing down and his symptoms worsen, or he feels worse for it. There is no guarantee. Every patient is different and responds differently.
4- Pro’s- This may ease Chris’ anxiety and thoughts about him dying may lessen. He will be more focused on his breathing.
Cons- Further concerns may not get raised by Chris, this could be problematic if communication breaks down between the staff and Chris. Chris is at further risk.
